What’s In Your Drink?

When trying to lose weight we are aware of the food we consume but what about the beverages?
Now I’m not picking on any certain drink 😉 but here is a run down of several popular ones:

Dr Pepper- a 20 oz bottle has 250 kcals, 66 grams carbs, 64 grams of sugar, roughly 16 teaspoons of sugar
Coca-Cola-a 20 oz bottle has 240 kcals, 65 grams carbs, 65 grams of sugar, roughly 16 teaspoons of sugar
Mountain Dew- a 20 oz bottle has 290 kcals, 77 grams of carbs, 77 grams of sugar, over 10 teaspoons of sugar
Sweet tea- 20 oz has approximately 175 kcals, 42 grams of carbs, 42 grams of sugar, just over 10 teaspoons of sugar
Margarita-this can depend on how it’s made but ones from a standard commercial mix can have 576 calories, 55 grams of carbs, 55 grams of sugar, nearly 14 teaspoons of sugar.

It is generally recommended that no more than 10% of your day’s calories should come from added sugars. So for example on a 1,500 calorie/day diet, no more than 150 calories should come from added sugars, including all food and drinks.
This is not saying you can never enjoy one of these beverages, just be aware of your choices so you can plan accordingly.
Tips for cutting calories from your beverages:
*If you are used to consuming 2 of these a day try cutting back to having 1
*if you are used to drinking the 20 oz bottles try the 12 ounce cans
*try mixing half sweet and half unsweet tea
